VOCATIONAL
EDUCATION
Click here for Requirements to be fulfilled
Vocational Courses at +2 stage were introduced in Andhra Pradesh from 1979-80 onwards with
the main objectives of :
- Providing diversification of educational
opportunities;
- Enhancement of individual employability;
- Reducing mis-match between demand and supply
of skilled manpower.
Prior to the academic year
1987- 88 the number of Vocational Courses were only 22 and the Junior/Degree Colleges
offering these courses were only 120. Central Government under Centrally Sponsored Scheme
stated financial assistance for running these courses for Construction of Worksheds,
Supply of equipment; Teacher training; Textbook Development Vocational Survey Curriculum
Development and Staff salaries.
From 1987-88 to 1993-94,1680 Vocational Sections are sanctioned in 511 Junior/Degree
Colleges in 29 Vocational Courses. Now all the Government Junior Colleges offering
Vocational Courses and a few selected Private Aided Colleges are covered under Centrally
Sponsored Scheme.
Out of Central Government funds, a scientific and systematic Vocational Survey was
conducted during 1992-93 by all the District Vocational Education Officers for
identification of needy courses. Based on the Survey Reports, project proposals were
submitted for sanction of Vocational Courses. Out of funds available for Text Books, 25
text books in 13 courses are developed in sufficient quantity and distributed to the
Colleges free of cost. 13 short-term training programs were organised from 1989 onwards
for in service teachers.
However, some of the sections sanctioned during 1988 to 1991 are not functioning. Recently
Government formed District Vocational Education Committees making District Collector
Chairman and other District officials; and non-officials members. Serious efforts are
under way to shift non-functioning courses to needy places based on the recommendations of
the DVEOs to make all the 1680 sections into function.
